This journey for me began thirteen years ago when I became interested in learning how individuals become resilient in the face of adversity. I come from a background in the field of counseling psychology holding a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Bowie State University, a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Towson University, and a Doctorate of Education degree in the field of counseling psychology from Argosy University. Additionally, I am a licensed professional counselor in Maryland, an Approved Drug and Alcohol Supervisor, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor.

I have been trained extensively in the areas of motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. My background has included work with individuals with chronic mental illness, co-occurring disorders, trauma, gender identity issues, women’s issues, childhood behavioral problems, sexual abuse, interpersonal relationships, and family dynamics.

Prior to private practice, I have worked as a therapist with children and adolescents in community outpatient settings, residential treatment programs, head start programs, and with adults in outpatient programs and a correctional institution, Additionally, I have worked as a Clinical Supervisor and have supervised substance abuse counselors and social work and counselor interns. Using an eclectic treatment approach, my goal is to focus on the client’s strengths and support than on the pathology. My clinical interest and passion is family work focusing on family education for those who have loved ones suffering from a chronic mental illness.
